Carl Heinrich Graun's 'Der Tod Jesu'

I will once again be joining the Jubilate Choir as a soloist, this time to perform in what is probably the Irish première of Carl Heinrich Graun's regrettably neglected Der Tod Jesu. The work, composed in the galant style (coming between the Baroque and Classical periods) is a non-scriptural telling of the Passion – that is, a telling that uses no material directly from the bible. This contrasts with the famous Passions by Bach, who's text comes almost entirely from the gospels, with poetic interjections.
